Cambodia Compass report, 1st June - Khuong Sreng, the governor of Phnom Penh, has refuted reports that the capital may be shut down again because to an increase in Covid-19 cases.
Khuong Sreng told a local news Monday evening that the authorities have been working hard with the Health Ministry to stop Covid-19 from spreading.
“In recent days, there has been news that officials are planning to lock down Phnom Penh once more. I'd want to inform you all that the administration has not yet announced any plans to impose a lockdown on Phnom Penh,” he said.
From April 14 to May 5, Phnom Peh was put under lockdown to combat the spread of a dangerous virus related to a community event on February 20.
On Monday, Cambodia reported 690 new Covid-19 positive cases. The total number of illnesses linked to the outbreak in February now stands at 29,194.
