Cambodia Compass report, 9th June -The COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Cambodia has gotten a boost after the country received a new batch of Chinese vaccines yesterday.
The fresh arrivals comprised Sinopharm vaccines supplied by the Chinese government and those acquired from Chinese biopharmaceutical firm Sinovac Biotech, according to Cambodian health ministry secretary of state Yok Sambath.
Both Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines are quite safe and effective, according to Sambath, who expressed her gratitude to China for delivering vaccines to Cambodia.
China and the World Health Organization's COVAX Facility have sent more than 7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to the Southeast Asian country, she added.
On February 10th, Cambodia began an anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
According to the health ministry, almost 4.97 million COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered throughout the country, with 2.2 million persons fully immunized.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has stated that the Government aims to vaccinate at least 10 million of the country's 16 million people by the end of this year or early next year.
The country saw 678 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases to 35,511 across the country, with 278 fatalities and 28,649 recoveries, according to the health ministry.
