Compass Cambodia report - Prime Minister Hun Sen has ordered Minister of Environment HE Say Sam Al to urgently conduct a land classification index in Cambodia for 2022 for effective control and management.
PM Hun Sen said during the groundbreaking ceremony for two new flyovers in Phnom Penh on 31 August that, the land classification index is vital for the government to effectively manage land usage.
“We can know how much agricultural land we have, how much forest land, how much residential land, how much irrigation, etc. With the index, we can know if each type increases or decreases, and why. Thus, we can take actions accordingly,” said PM Hun Sen.
PM Hun Sen also ordered the Minister to study whether there is overlapping usage of land types. For example, it can be a case in which public infrastructure development overuses residential land or residential development overlap with agricultural land.
