Compass Cambodia report, July 17th - Indonesia is interested in agriculture, agro-industry, renewable energy, construction, and real estate investment potential in Cambodia.
At a meeting between Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia Sudirman Haseng and Cambodian companies in the agricultural and real estate sectors, this interest was expressed. Lim Heng, vice-president of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, Mong Reththy, head of the Mong Reththy Group, and Sear Rithy, president of the WorldBridge Group, were present at the meeting. “We talked about boosting investment from Indonesia to Cambodia. There are plenty of Indonesian [investors] who have shown interest in the agricultural sector,” Heng went on to say that after the pandemic, the group will be able to meet in person, and industries with investment potential will be able to display their work in order to attract investment in processing facilities for export.
Mong Reththy expressed gratitude for the ambassador's assistance in advancing investment post-Covid and developing the two countries' long-term partnership. Heng believes that it is a good moment for international investors to consider Cambodia in light of upcoming trade agreement ratification, signing, and exploratory conversations.
According to Sudirman Haseng, Cambodians are increasingly favoring Indonesian products like as food and beverages, fruit (particularly salak, a type of palm tree), and batik-style clothing.
He referenced the Indonesia-Cambodia Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, a framework for discussing bilateral concerns and how the two countries may best collaborate on political cooperation, economics, socio-cultural issues, defense, security, tourism, and regional and multilateral issues.
