The capital has ordered relevant departments and local people's committees to increase inspections and put pressure on these project developers to speed up construction, according to the construction department, adding that many projects are now in the review stage and will take longer. Townhouses and villas that have been abandoned for three months to less than a year are subject to a 5% tax.
The tax rate is 10% for homeowners who have been gone for a year or more. It is also proposed that the owners of abandoned luxury properties face a punishment ranging from 10 million VND (431 USD) to 20 million won per flat.
