Compass Cambodia report - Recently, as for big construction sites in order to expedite operations, instead of sniffing for mines, dogs are being trained to smell for wildlife at vast building sites by Germany's Deutsche Bahn (DB).
"Dogs are being used in building projects for the first time in Germany. Dogs, with their keen sense of smell, can locate endangered animals at any time of year and in nearly any weather "Jens Bergmann, DB's head of infrastructure planning.
Six different types of dogs are being trained by the railway corporation to smell out protected creatures like creeping snakes, yellow-bellied toads, bats, wall lizards, and sand lizards on railway lines, according to DB.
As the dogs explore the building sites, their handlers will record their findings on a tablet using a new digital data platform designed to provide real-time data on the observed wildlife to all project participants and regulatory authorities.
