MPWT introduces the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port railway study project

Compass Cambodia report - The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has presented a railway study project in Kandal province's Kien Svay district that will connect to the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, with the goal of facilitating commodities transit and boosting economic growth.

The project is being implemented at a time when the quantity of containers transiting through the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port has expanded dramatically.

HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, instructed relevant officials to conduct a feasibility study of the railway project connecting to Phnom Penh Autonomous Port during the inauguration ceremony of the LM17 container port infrastructure of Phnom Penh Autonomous Port on September 20.

"We should think about whether we should connect our existing railway to the port or connect to the special economic zone where the autonomous port is located," he said.

HE Sun Chanthol also requested that officials investigate the potential of rehabilitating the railway connecting to the Kilometer 6 areas in the Russei Keo district, which serves as a terminal port for public transportation and reduces traffic congestion.
