Compass Cambodia report - Cambodia's vaccination campaign is progressing in an orderly manner, Prime Minister Hun Sen said in a video conference at the 76th United Nations General Assembly on the evening of September 25th, and Cambodia is expected to gradually and fully open in the near future.
He stated that Cambodia began vaccination on February 10 this year and expects to have vaccinated 80 percent of the country's population, or 13 million people, by November.
In addition to COVID-19, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that the world faces other challenges, including geopolitical competition and rivalry among major powers, technology and trade wars, armed conflicts, territorial disputes, terrorism and transnational crime, and climate change. He also stated that addressing the aforementioned difficulties, as well as strengthening multilateralism and international cooperation based on the rule of law, is vital and a top priority.
Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that the main topic of the upcoming 13th Asia Europe Summit (ASEM 13), which will be hosted online in Cambodia, is to stick to multilateralism and seek common development. Collaborative efforts to combat the disease and rebuild socioeconomic strength, as well as joint responses to climate change and WTO reform, are among them.
In terms of peacekeeping, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that Cambodia has sent around 7500 peacekeeping officers and soldiers to UN peacekeeping missions since 2006. At the same time, it also strongly supports the "action for peacekeeping" initiative launched by the Secretary General of the United Nations.
Prime Minister Hun Sen also pointed out that Cambodia will strive to meet regional challenges during its rotating presidency of ASEAN next year. He stated that, with the strong solidarity of ASEAN Member States and the support of external partners, Cambodia will continue to promote the ASEAN Community's construction process and develop ASEAN into a region key to global commerce, investment, and supply chain development.
