Royal Group invests US$35 million building 70km roads on Koh Rong island

Royal Group injected US$35 million to build concrete roads with a total length 70km on Koh Rong island, as part of the firm development’s masterplan.

The 70km road is to be built by Sinohydro Construction Co Ltd from China, and the construction agreement was signed on July 14 at Preah Sihanouk province.

According to a press release from the Royal Group, the project costs US$35 million and will take 16 months to complete in line with infrastructure development master plan approved by the Council for the Development of Cambodia in 2010.

Preah Sihanouk Province Governor Kuoch Chamroeun said in the signing ceremony that the infrastructure development on Koh Rong Island indicates the new progress of the Royal Group of its efforts to boost the development on the island as mentioned on the contract with the government.

“The firm has started the construction of hotels, and now they are building 70 km concrete road. After that, there will be construction other infrastructures such as electricity grid, clean water, airport, and so on,” Chamroeun said.

The Royal Group was granted a 99-years lease of Koh Rong in 2008, aiming at transforming the island to be the commercial hub and natural tourism resort.

In late of 2019, the Royal Group announced a US$285 million joint venture investment China’s Royal Galaxy Group develop Koh Rong to become a world-class resort. The project will include building an airport and solar power stations on the island as well.(This news came from Construction-Property.com)
