Construction sector creates hundred thousands of jobs

The Kingdom’ construction sector has created more than 170,000 jobs in average per day across the country in the first half this year, an increase from 134,000 compared with the same period last year, according to figures from the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC).

The report shows that in the Capital Phnom Penh alone, the sector created between 24,130 jobs and 24,500 jobs per day, an increase of 27.16 percent year-on-year.

According to the study, the labour cost in the construction sector also been rising during the said period. Unskilled workers earn between $10 and $15 per day while skilled workers and team leaders earn between $15 and $25 per day, the report said. Engineers earn around $2,500 per month.

Across the country, there are 2,522 projects approved in the first half with a value of more than $3.842 billion, an increase from 1,047 projects in the same period last year an $3.392 billion increase or 13.26 percent increase, according to the report.(This news came from Khmertimes.com)
