The Australian Ambassador to Cambodia Pablo Kang, and Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor Kuoch Chamroeun, launched Australia’s support for a “smart city” strategy for Sihanoukville.

“Epidemic disruptions require new and innovative approaches to service delivery and city development, as government budgets come under pressure,” Ambassador Kang said.

Funded by Australia’s Investing in Infrastructure (3i) programme in Cambodia, the Sihanoukville smart city strategy will develop a framework for how public resources can attract private investment to provide quality public services.

The strategy will also explore how key government services such as utilities tracking, parking identification and traffic management can be improved through the use of smart applications.

“Australia’s flagship infrastructure programme in Cambodia, – Investing in Infrastructure – is committed to assisting Sihanoukville to achieves its smart city  vision,” Ambassador Kang said. “The strategy will provide a guideline for the Preah Sihanouk administration to efficiently employ smart applications in public service delivery, reducing the impacts of the epidemic and laying the foundations for a resilient economic recovery.”

Sihanoukville has undergone rapid development in recent years which has led to a number of new infrastructure projects in the city.

“With this changing landscape and epidemic, we are working closely with the Preah Sihanouk provincial administration to ensure that high-quality public services continue to benefit the people of Preah Sihanouk province,” Ambassador Kang added.

“The Preah Sihanouk provincial administration is grateful for Australia’s support and looks forward to the draft smart city strategy by the end of 2020,” Governor Kuoch Chamroeun said.(This news came from Khmertimes.com)
