The Cambodian government on August 6 issued sub-decree leasing 168.8 hectares of land in Botum Sakor National Park in Koh Kong province to the Royal Group for the development of a 700-megawatt coal-fired power plant project.
Located in Thmor Sar village and Chamlong Kor village of Botum Sakor district, this plot of land is granted to the Royal Group with a sustainable development term.
According to the sub-decree, the implementation of the leasing is primarily under the control of the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Royal Group, in fact, has been granted a concession to implement the power plant development project since March, but this new sub-decree is considered to be another official permission to the land.
The company also recently has just reached settlements with 58 families in the development area.
The power plant project will cost a total of US$ 1.3 billion. Upon completion, Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) guarantees to buy 80% of the energy from this project per year.(This news came from Construction-Property.com)
