Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport announced that the government is promoting the implementation of the Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway project actively.
In accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a resolution on July 15 to establish an inter-departmental committee to promote the implementation of the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway Project.
It was stated at the meeting that China Railway International Group applied to the government for investment and development in the BOT (build-operate-transfer) method of this large-scale project. The obligation of the inter-departmental committee include inspecting and making recommendations on this highway investment project from various aspects including legal procedures, and submitting a report to the prime minister.
At the same time, Prime Minister Hun Sen emphasized that the committee should promote the successful implementation of this large-scale investment project and accelerate the construction and development of the Phnom Penh-Bavet Economic Area.
It is understood that the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, which was constructed by China Railway International Group, is estimated to cost US$3.8 billion and the total length is about 130 kilometers. The starting point is the third loop road in Phnom Penh, passing through Kandal Province and Prey Veng Province, and ending at Bavet in Svay Rieng Province on the Cambodia-Vietnam border. The total length is about 135 kilometers. It is expected to build 4 lanes with a width of 25.5 meters.
Once the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway is completed, it will not only further connect the economic exchanges between Phnom Penh and Bavet and other provinces and cities along the route, and inject more vitality into the development of diversified industries, but also will open the international border between Cambodia and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, connecting to promote the development of international trade.
