On the morning of October 19, 2020, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, received H.E. Park Heung-Kyeong, newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
On that occasion, H.E. Park Heung-Kyeong informed Samdech about the request of H.E. Park Byeong-seug, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to visit the Kingdom of Cambodia in early November to strengthen and expand cooperation between the two parliaments.
Samdech Heng Samrin welcomed the visit of the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, and the National Assembly of Cambodia is ready to welcome this important visit with good hospitality.
The National Assembly President praised the good relations, friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the past, which has brought benefits for both peoples, and welcomed the mission of H.E. Park Heung-Kyeong in Cambodia.
At the same time, Samdech Heng Samrin stated that the Republic of Korea has been playing an important role in contributing to the development of Cambodia, such as health care, infrastructure and rural development. Samdech requested the Republic of Korea to increase the quota of Cambodian citizens to work in Korea.
Park Heung-Kyeong supported the remarks made by the President of the National Assembly of Cambodia and informed him about the political, economic, trade and development progress between the two peoples in recent years.
It worth to noting Cambodia-Korea trade volume in 2019 reached $ 1 billion, and Korean investment in Cambodia amounted to more than $ 5 billion, making Korea the second largest country to invest in Cambodia. Whereas about 40,000 Cambodians are working in the Republic of Korea.
The Ambassador also informed the National Assembly President that in the coming year, the Republic of Korea will provide additional aid to Cambodia in the field of demining, and the symbol of the relationship between the two countries may appear, namely of aid to build Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge which across the Mekong River.
