H.E. Chuk Chumnor, Director of the Tourism Product Development Department of the Ministry of Tourism, stated that during the meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for Consultation on the Third Draft of the Mondulkiri Tourism Development Master Plan, the meeting discussed and commented on many as additional inputs related to clean water, electricity, agriculture, mining and electricity, land, airports, small and medium enterprises, infrastructure, climate innovation, aesthetics, grasslands and smart city forests, etc. in order to make Mondulkiri, become an international tourist destination and to be consistent.
Thong Khon, Ministry of Tourism, said that the completion of these inputs is to contribute to the development of tourism in Mondulkiri to be more attractive to attract international tourists will increase to about 900,000 and more than 2 million domestic tourists in 2035 with the development of new tourism products in line with the spirit of the master plan.
The Minister further stated that in the tourism development master plan of Mondulkiri province, six major tourism destinations have been identified according to different geographical locations and potentials, including: 1) Eco-tourism areas in the wildlife sanctuary in Mondulkiri province, there are 5 wildlife sanctuaries under the control of the Ministry of Environment and full of potential in the field of eco-tourism. 2) Eco-tourism and Indigenous Tourism Corridor: This second tourism pole will be connected from Busra to Dak Dam area.
3) Sen Monorom city area will develop this city into a multi-purpose development area with various recreational activities. 4) Urban area of Koh Nhek district, It has the potential to be a special agro-tourism area, which can be organized as a Water Plane on the Srepok River in Koh Nhek district. Although the Srepok River is not conducive to navigation, tourism or transportation (due to the abundance of reefs), it can be arranged as a floating station like some countries that allow aircraft to fly to the Tonle Sap Lake area or go to Koh Rong as well.
5) Mondulkiri Airport area in O'Reang district, which will be developed as a satellite city of Sen Monorom. 6) Border Gate Integration Zone: In Mondulkiri province, there are four bilateral border gates with Vietnam, which can promote development activities and tourism along this border.
