Prime Minister Hun Sen said at the opening ceremony of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway construction on March 22 that organizing the SEA Games will not be held at the end of the year. The event will be held in May 2023 to celebrate the sporting event and Cambodia will host for the first time.
The Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Cambodian Olympic Committee Thong Khon said that the construction of the Morodok Samdech Techo Stadium has now reached about 60 percent and that the stadium can accommodate 55,000 people and there is a system that can quickly release people in just 45 minutes.
“The stadium is the Chinese government’s offer of 150 million US dollars as a grant from China to Cambodia,” he said, adding that “every seat in the main stadium has a QR code that is modern and standard. ”
Thong Khon said that the main stadium will be completed officially by the end of 2021, as part of the stadium costs of the construction is from Cambodian government.
Morodok Samdech Techo Stadium is in Prek Tasek commune, Chroy Changvar commune, Phnom Penh and in the center of the satellite city of Techo Morakot.
