MPWT: Covid-19 issue does not affect Cambodia’s road development projects

The recent Covid-19 issue does not affect the development of Cambodia’s roads, which are financed by the People’s Republic of China.

This statement was claimed by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport during the interview with the press at the inaugurate ceremony for National Road 55 and the groundbreaking ceremony of National Road 10 in the morning of March 9, 2020.

“The problem of Covid 19 has not been an obstacle to road development in Cambodia since the project team has long been in Cambodia, so there is no delay in the construction of any project,” said H.E.

“The National Road 10 and the Kratie bridge project are still ongoing, and we have submitted (the project) in our five years plan and are waiting for the Ministry of Economy and Finance to propose it to Prime Minister Hun Sen. So, there is no delay so far” he continued.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen on 9th March 2020 said that China had financed the construction of more than 3,000km of roads in the Kingdom, which includes the recent inauguration of NR 55 with the total length of 180km and the groundbreaking of NR 10 with the total length of 198km.

However, on March 4, Samdech Techo Hun Sen asked the government’s ministries and relevant institutions to reduce the expenses and allocating them for combating the Covid-19 outbreak.(This news came from Construction-Property.com)
