Minister Discusses Draft Master Plan for Tourism in Mondulkiri Province

His Excellency Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Commission, presided over the opening ceremony of the Consultative Workshop on the Preliminary Draft Master Plan for Tourism Development in Mondulkiri Province on August 10, 2020 to boost the tourism sector in this province ,can attract more tourists to contribute to support socio-economic growth and job creation.

The workshop was held at Pichda Restaurant, Sen Monorom City, with the participation of HE Svay Sam Eang, Governor of Mondulkiri Province, Vice Chairman and members of the Inter-Ministerial Commission, Mayors, District Governors, Commune Chiefs, Private Sector Units, National and International Organizations.

H.E Minister Thong Khon and Governor of Mondulkiri Province, representatives of relevant institutions and departments in this workshop, focused on the following points: Defining the vision for the development of tourism in Mondulkiri province, zoning for tourism development, strategic orientation, key priorities and institutional mechanisms to implement the master plan, etc.

At the same time, H.E Minister also provided additional comments on the draft master plan for tourism development in Mondulkiri province, including:

* First, the development of tourism in Mondulkiri must adhere to the approach of sustainable development and responsibility "Development serves conservation and conservation supports development" For the benefit of the economy, society and local people, contribute to the care, protection and conservation of natural resources and cultural heritage, especially to maintain the original identity of Mondulkiri.

* Second, development must respond to the vision of national development in 2020-2035 and the years to come, based on the current situation and the commitment of the Royal Government.

* Third: Determining the scope of investment-development activities in the five wildlife sanctuaries (Phnom Prech ,Nam Lear, Lumphat, Keo Seima and Sre Pok) and Busra - Dak Dam Cultural and Ecotourism Corridor by encouraging the development of only ecotourism and ecotourism, along with ethnic indigenous cultural tourism in particular, should encourage and strengthen the tourism community to be good and effective.

* Fourth: Provincial authorities at all levels and expertise must strictly and regid implement the orders of the head of the Royal Government to prevent encroachment on state land, forest land as private property.

* Fifth: Register the major tourist resorts in the province as soon as possible to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of the use and development of these areas.

At the same time, HE Minister Thong Khon also urged and reminded the provincial administration to continue to implement tourism safety measures properly in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Tourism.Especially while domestic tourism is booming, the long-term holiday season must be given the highest attention and provide quality and hygienic tourism services.(This news came from MOT)
