Summary:So far, China has built and improved more than 20 new highways for Cambodia, with a total length of more than 3,000 kilometers.

On February 26, China's aid road construction of Cambodia's Highway 58 was officially opened which attract the attention of the Chinese and Cambodian people. The opening of the highway has injected a strong impetus into the economic development of western Cambodia and laid the foundation for Chinese enterprises and investors to enter the Cambodian market.

In fact, the official opening of Highway 58 is just a microcosm of China's many aids and investments in Cambodia. In recent years, China has continuously provided Cambodia with infrastructure support, and provided a lot of assistance to Cambodia in various fields such as public transportation, medical and health, water irrigation, education, and human resources.

So far, China has built and improved more than 20 new highways for Cambodia, with a total length of more than 3,000 kilometers.

1. PP-SH highway

Construction of the expressway began on March 22, 2019 and is expected to be completed by 2023.With a total length of about 190 kilometers and a total investment of US $ 1.782 billion, the Golden Port Expressway is the first expressway in Cambodia.The total length is 190.63 kilometers. After completion, from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukvile transportation will save money and cost.

2. Highway 6

Construction of the Cambodian Highway 6 aided by China began in May 2013 and was officially used in June 2018.The total length of Highway 6 is 251 kilometers and the total cost is 255 million US dollars. It is the link connecting the capital Phnom Penh and the Siem Reap.The opening of Highway 6 has promoted the interconnection between Phnom Penh and the provinces in the north central part of the country, marking the completion of a comprehensive upgrade of one of the most important and busy transportation trunks in Cambodia's national highway network.

3.Highway 7

Construction of the Cambodian Highway 7 aided by China began in November 2004 and was completed and opened to traffic in May 2008.Highway 7 is a national highway in Cambodia with a total length of 509.17 kilometers. It starts from Kampong Cham Province in the south, passes Kampong Cham City, crosses the Mekong River, and then detours to the north near the Vietnam border, passes Kratie province and Stung Treng Province to the Laos border, and is connected to Highway 13.The opening of Highway 7 effectively solved the problem of transportation difficulties in the provinces along the line, expanded the sales market of local crops, and brought more income to farmers.

4. Highway 10

Construction of Cambodia's No. 10 Highway, which will be aided by China, will begin in 2020. The completion time is yet to be determined.Highway 10 is 193 kilometers long and costs $ 180 million. The road connects with Than Long County, Battambang Province, through Veal Veng County, Pursat Province, and  Khma Bang County, Koh Kong Province. The road is T-shaped.After the completion of Highway 10, it will have direct access to the coastal provinces of the Kingdom, such as Banteay Meanchey province and Battambang province in northwestern Cambodia.

5. Highway 41

Construction of the Cambodian Highway 41 aided by China began in May 2011 and was completed and opened to traffic in June 2015.Highway 41 runs 95 km from Kandal Province to the north and Kampot Province to the south. The Chinese government provided US $ 46 million in preferential loan construction. Highway 41 is an important highway connecting the three provinces of kampong spoe, and Takeo. The construction of Highway 41 has played a significant role in improving the rapid development of the southwest coastal area of Cambodia and improving the lives of local people.

6. Highway 44

Construction of the Cambodian Highway 44 aided by China began in May 2013 and was completed in August 2016. With a total length of 139 kilometers and a total cost of 80.3 million U.S. dollars, Route 44 is one of Cambodia's national sub roads. Highway No. 44 connects National Highway No. 4 in the province of Kampong Speu, and passes through the Chamakrmon district and 4 counties to No. 5 of the actual living province.The completion of Highway 44 will connect Cambodia's main national highways 4 and 5 to greatly facilitate the travel of Cambodian people and the circulation of various goods.

7. Highway 51

Construction of the Cambodian Highway 51 aided by China began in March 2017 and is expected to be completed in 2020.Highway 51 is 12 meters wide and 37.96 kilometers long. It connects National Road 4 and National Road 5, and is assisted by the Chinese government's preferential loan of 162 million yuan. The estimated construction period is 36 months.The construction of Highway 51 will form a circular network of highways in Kompong Spue Province, greatly improve the efficiency of transportation, promote the development of transportation and tourism, promote economic growth, and bring tangible benefits to the local people.

8. Highway 55

Construction of Highway 55 started in May 2015 and was completed and opened to traffic in June 2018.Highway 55 has a total length of 182 kilometers and a total investment of USD 132 million. It is supported by Chinese loans and constructed by Chinese companies. Route 55 leads directly from Pursat provinceto the Cambodia-Thailand border, and is Cambodia's first road with multiple mountain roads.Its completion will create convenient conditions for the trading and transportation of various agricultural products in Cambodia. In addition, it will attract more Thai investors and tourists and play an important role in the local socioeconomic development.

9. The third one ring road

Construction of the third ring road in Phnom Penh officially started on January 14, 2019, and is expected to be completed in 2021.Phnom Penh's third ring road project is located in Phnom Penh and Kandal provinces, with a total length of nearly 53 kilometers and a total investment of US $ 273 million. Among them, it is about 15 kilometers through Phnom Penh and 38 kilometers through Kandal Province.The third ring road in Phnom Penh is of positive significance for improving Cambodia's national highway network and alleviating traffic congestion in the capital region. At the same time, the third ring road in Phnom Penh will drive the development of investment and tourism in the capital region and promote the rise in real estate prices along the ring road.

10. Highway 1577

Construction of Highway 1577 started in November 2015 and was officially used in April 2018.Highway 1577 is an important international corridor connecting Cambodia's Highway 57 and the Thai border area. The total length is 51.798 kilometers, with a total investment of approximately 38.212 million US dollars.The opening of Highway 1577 will further improve the road network of Battambang Province, Cambodia, which is of great significance for improving the level of connectivity in the region and activating the economic development of the region. At the same time, the highway will also become an important transportation hub for Cambodia-Thailand trade and tourism.At present, Cambodia's roads are criss-crossed and interconnected across the country. With the continuous deepening and implementation of China's The Belt and Road policy, Cambodia will benefit from more and more preferential policies. In the future, as infrastructure becomes more complete, Cambodia will attract more foreign investors.
