Summary:Cambodia's economic development has blessed the country with a large number of foreign investments.

With a large number of foreign investments the economic development of Cambodia has blessed the country. Over the last decade, the property market in this country has watched a massive boost, as a stepping stone for this sector was the renewal of laws and rules on foreign ownership and boosted the spirit of all designated business members. Brand new homes are currently under construction in Cambodia every day and investors from other countries such as China, Japan, Vietnam, South Korea and others have been showing interest when they invest. Different categories of property are found in Cambodia.

1- Condominium

A condominium is a building or a complex of multiple buildings, or is known as a condo. It consists of apartments with separate ownership. After enforcing the law for 2010 on the provision of rights of ownership of foreigners in the private units of co-owned buildings, the condominium units were the first legally approved housing for aliens to own. The owners have certain conditions to follow during their ownership. In general in condominium complexes, high-rise and mixed-use constructions are found. People in condos must share common facilities such as parking, fitness centres, pools, etc.

2-Villa

A house which is seen alone as a standing house or a house, separated from the other places, is a villa. This is a house usually with a garden or outdoor area. Villas in Cambodia are very common homes, and are either to live or use commercially for multiple purposes. New villas, which also old colonial villas are demanding, are being built now and then. However, recent cases were reported in some of the main districts like Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and others where traditional villas were knocked out. These ancient villas are replaced in the construction of modern villas.

3-Serviced Apartments

In comparison to other housing types, the apartment that is usually designed in a Western manner and addresses all of the aspects of a perfect property is known as service apartments. The size, design and style of these apartments vary as the location requires. The design is mostly better suited to the customers. These include gyms, safeguards, pools and laundry facilities in apartments serviced. The demand for such flats is on the rise with foreigners entering this country for a long term stay as western-designed flats for most foreign citizens are popular.

4-Traditional Khmer houses

The traditional aspect of the country is similar to Khmer homes in Cambodia. Initially these houses are wood and, if we look back, they have been built mainly on stands to prevent flooding in the houses so that the necessary items from the families affected are harmless. The emerging development of the immobilization market in the country, however, calls for refurbishment. Consequently, most of the wooden houses on the ground and without panels in central areas are turned into housing. These houses have been transformed also by turning them into restaurants or food courts into tourist attractions. The districts prone to flooding are continuing the traditional structure of building houses on stilts.

5-Shophouses and Renovated Shophouses

The houses which stand in a row and share a common wall of the neighboring houses are called shophouses in a Khmer style. This kind of house remains one of the Kingdom's most important properties. For these shophouses — 4 meters by 16 metres, there is a standard size (13 feet by 52 feet). The floors are two, three or four, and the layout seems narrow and long. The ground floor has access to the streets, so that the family can do so, if they want to open the shop from home. The road leads to the differences between these houses and the rest. About the renovated version of the shophouses, though they are of the same size, the difference is in the Western touch.
