On the morning of December 18, 2024, His Excellency Dr. Mao Havannall led a meeting and a working group to inspect the progress of the construction project of the 4F-class Techo International Airport-Phase 1 to prepare for completion and opening next year.
His Excellency, the Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, confirmed that the Techo International Airport, level 4F, in Takhmao City, Kandal Province, will open its first phase in July 2025.
The meeting was attended by the leadership and technical working group of the SSCA, as well as the leadership and members of the committee to manage and coordinate the operations of Techo International Airport and representatives of Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd. (CAIC).
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Charles Van, director of Cambodia Airport Investment Co. Ltd. (CAIC), stated, “In today’s meeting, Minister Mao Havannall set the target of opening the Techo International Airport in July 2025.”
Mr. Charles Van said that all construction processes of Techo International Airport are proceeding according to plan and there are no major problems; only some minor issues remain to prepare for the completion of construction work in 2025.
During the meeting, His Excellency Dr. Mao Havannall expressed his happiness that all the working groups, including the construction company of Techo International Airport, were working together well and proceeding according to the plan.
It is worth noting that the progress of the Techo International Airport project, which began construction in 2020, as of December 18, 2024, has reached approximately 92 percent completion.
Techo International Airport has a total area of 2,600 hectares, located 19 kilometers from Phnom Penh. It is being developed in three phases. The investment budget for the first phase is US$1.5 billion, excluding the airport land price.
Techo International Airport is a 4F-level large airport that can absorb and receive flights from long distances across continents, which can accommodate giant aircraft up to Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800 aircraft.
