Cambodia Compass report, 20th May - According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the rise in cumulative COVID-19 cases per capita in Cambodia slowed in the most recent reporting week. Cambodia remained among six ASEAN countries with relatively low accumulated deaths per capita, according to the WHO's Weekly Epidemiological Update published in Geneva overnight. As of Sunday, Cambodia had 132.7 total cases per 100,000 people, according to the latest data. That was up 15% from 115.1 a week ago, when cases had increased by 33% over the previous seven days.

The slower growth in cumulative cases per capita was due to a drop in the number of new cases, which fell to 2,947 from 4,717 the week before. However, the WHO reported that the number of new cases in the Western Pacific Region, which includes Cambodia, increased by 4% to 132,000, with the highest numbers coming from Japan, the Philippines, and Malaysia. According to the WHO, “these three countries accounted for 89 percent of all cases recorded in the Region in the previous week.” Malaysia had the largest number of cases per 100,000 in ASEAN countries (1,440.8), followed by Singapore (1,051.8), the Philippines (1,038.7), Indonesia (634.9), Myanmar (262.9), and Thailand (1,051.8). (145.3). Brunei (53.0), Laos (21.6), and Vietnam (Vietnam) had fewer combined cases than Cambodia (4.2). Japan had the most total cases per 100,000 population in Northeast Asia (536.1), followed by South Korea (256.8) and China (7.1).

Six ASEAN countries, including Cambodia (0.9), Thailand (0.8), Brunei (0.7), and Singapore (0.5), as well as Vietnam and Laos, had less than one death per 100,000. (fewer than 0.1). Among ASEAN countries, Indonesia had the highest death rate (17.5), followed by the Philippines (17.4), Myanmar (5.9), and Malaysia (5.9). (5.8).
