Compass Cambodia report - The provincial government of Sihanoukville has given permission to a private company to build a new eco-tourist port in the Prey Nup area, with the goal of increasing the province's tourism potential.
The port will be a small-scale construction, according to Sihanoukville Governor HE Kouch Chamroeun's site inspection on Tuesday 14 December, in order to maintain the area's beauty and nature.
Ground for the development has been registered in Trapeang Kea hamlet, Cheung Ko commune, with a 30-meter-long piece of land removed from a natural waterway.
Despite his approval, HE Chamroeun also urged that the project owners conduct thorough research to ensure that the project has the least possible environmental impact.
