In a remarkable gesture of hospitality, Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced that all foreign athletes competing in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games hosted by Cambodia will be granted free access to the iconic Angkor Wat temple complex, and exempting them from purchasing entrance tickets.
The Prime Minister made this generous declaration while conferring diplomas to over 3,000 agricultural graduates at the Royal University of Agriculture on the morning of May 15, 2023.
Samdech Hun Sen expressed, “Following the conclusion of the Games, the Royal Government extends an invitation to foreign athletes, granting them complimentary access to Angkor Wat without the need to purchase tickets. This offer is exclusively reserved for all participating athletes and sports delegates.”
Furthermore, Prime Minister Hun Sen emphasized that the Angkor Institute and the Ministry of Economy and Finance should refrain from charging any fees to foreign athletes who visit the magnificent temples of Angkor Wat during their time in Cambodia for the SEA Games.
This privilege applies solely to the athletes and sports delegates, while those attending the sporting events as spectators will be required to purchase tickets as per regular guidelines for foreign visitors.
This gracious act by the Prime Minister demonstrates Cambodia's commitment to fostering a warm and welcoming environment for the international sporting community during the SEA Games.
The opportunity to explore the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage site, will undoubtedly enhance the experience of the participating athletes and leave them with lasting memories of Cambodia's rich cultural heritage.
