The new Phnom Penh International Airport (Techo Takhmao International Airport), located in the southern part of Phnom Penh, has begun to change shape. In fact, up to now, more than 51% of the construction has been completed. This is according to the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction.
According to the press release from the Ministry on September 2, 2023, H.E. Beng Hong Socheat Khemro, Director General of the General Department of Land Management and Urban Planning and Chairman of the Working Group for Supporting the Preparation of the New Phnom Penh International Airport Project, led the relevance working group to examine the progress of the construction work of the airport, as a result of which the project achieved about 51.1%.
The new Phnom Penh International Airport, or Techo International Airport, was built on an area of about 2,600 hectares in Takhmao City and Kandal Steung District, Kandal Province, and some land in Bati District, Takeo Province. The above international airport is a large project in Cambodia that is a joint venture between the Overseas Investment Corporation of Cambodia (OCIC) of Nak Oknha Pung Kheav Se and a Chinese company.
The construction is divided into three phases, with the first phase expected to be completed by 2025, cost $1.5 billion (excluding land costs), and receive 13 million tourists. The second phase will end in 2030 and can receive 30 million visitors a year, and the third phase will end in 2050 and can receive 50 million visitors a year.
