Prime Minister Advice to Update Railway with a Speed of 80 km/h

Samdach Thipadei Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has instructed the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) to review and update the train to run at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, while currently driving at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour.

The prime minister's remarks were made at a meeting with 15,194 workers at factories and enterprises based in the Cambodian Zhejiang Guoji Special Economic Zone in Sihanoukville on the morning of November 7, 2023.

Speaking at the cremony, the Prime Minister stressed, "We only talk about freight rail; now we can only drive 50 kilometers per hour; now we have to do an update to be driven at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour to transport some goods by rail. I gave a study on reducing road transport costs. So if it is a success, we can do more transport and increase the freight on this railway."

Samdech Thipadei continued that one car can carry only one cabinet, but one train can carry many cabinets with a length of 1 to 2 kilometers, which is a strategy to increase freight to boost economic growth.

He added that the arrangement of the railway has contributed to freight, increased freight by rail, and the construction of infrastructure has helped reduce transportation costs, boosting the economy along all roads across the country.
