Cambodia-Japan Signed MOU on 7 Significant Documents

On December 18, 2023, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdach Thipadei Hun Manet, met with H.E. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, on the occasion of attending the 50th ASEAN-Japan Anniversary Summit from December 15–19, 2023, in Tokyo, Japan.

H.E. KISHIDA Fumio welcomes the presence of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and high-level delegations of the Royal Government of Cambodia to Japan on the occasion of the 50th ASEAN-Japan Anniversary Summit and The Asia Zero Emission Community Leaders Meeting-AZEC, He also expressed his gratitude to Cambodia for providing intimate cooperation in all fields, and the latest collaboration is a joint effort to train Ukrainian Demining Experts.

Samdach Thipadei Hun Manet also congratulated Japan on its success in hosting the two summits and expressed support for Japan's AZEC-related initiatives as well as three other initiatives, including "Heart-to-Heart Partners across Generations", "Partners for Co-creation of Economy and Society", and "Partners for Peace and Stability."

In addition, to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Cambodia-Japan Diplomatic relations and a year of upgrading ties between the two countries to a comprehensive strategic partnership, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom also outlined a number of cooperation directions that aim to further strengthen relations between the two countries in the fields of defense and security, trade and investment, infrastructure, connectivity, and the reopening of direct flights between Cambodia and Japan.

The Prime Minister of Japan thanked Cambodia for their close friendship and fruitful cooperation in the past and stated that he would continue to work with the Royal Government of Cambodia to achieve new achievements in the common interest of Cambodia and Japan.

In the meeting, the two leaders also presided over the exchange of seven cooperation documents ceremony, including:

1: National Data Center Development Project Towards Promoting e-Government

2: Development project of Digital Water Management System in urban areas

3: Project to request a vessel for Hydrological measurement for the production of Electronic Navigation maps

4: Joint Memorandum between the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan on Cooperation for Digital Economic and Social Development in Cambodia

5: MOU between the National Bank of Cambodia and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan on Cross-Border Payment Cooperation via QR Code

6: MOU between the Ministry of Mines and Energy with Minebea Mitsumi and SchneiTec on Cooperation on the Solar Energy Project

7: MOU between the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Erex Co. Ltd., and SPHP (Cambodia) on Cooperation on the Biomass Energy Project.
