Beaches are a major economic hub that can earn an estimated $2 billion a year

H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Say Sam Al, Minister of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction and Chairman of the National Committee on Coastal Area Management and Development, said that the coastal area is a major economic pole for Cambodia, which can generate national income of about $2 billion a year. The Cambodia Sea has fishery resources, not to mention beach resources for tourists, as these resources are linked to the travel and accommodation of tourists.

H.E. spoke at a meeting to review the progress of the Kep Public Beach Resort Development Project, which was held on the afternoon of January 8, 2024, at the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction.

H.E. Deputy Prime Minister stated that in the development of coastal areas, some points, such as economic poles, coasts as a whole, and isolated beaches, should be considered, as should how to develop and agree on a common concept that must be implemented step by step and won't go back.

The National Committee for Coastal Management and Development of Cambodia is a joint mechanism for coordination with relevant ministries, institutions, sub-national administrations, and stakeholders, so let's all think about the distance of the coastal road from Kep to Koh Kong. We need to develop something in line with the potential of each area to attract tourists. The strategy is to gather what we have first, and other separate projects will continue to be implemented later.

The Minister continued that the Royal Government of Cambodia pays attention to the development project of Kep Public Beach Resort to attract more tourists to visit this coastal province and improve the living standards of the people in this province through tourism.

At the same time, H.E. encouraged the architects and city planners to design in front of Kep Provincial Hall to be more beautiful to attract more tourists together to maintain the beach from damage and provided ideas for the construction of pedestrian or bicycle lanes that can be located along the coast from Kep to Koh Kong so that people or tourists can relax or exercise.
