Royal Government Allow to Create a New City in Siem Reap Province

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, has issued a sub-decree on the establishment of the "Run Ta Ek Techo Sen City" of Siem Reap Province by cutting the Run Ta Ek commune from Banteay Srei district and the Ballangk commune from Prasat Bakong district.

In the sub-decree issued on January 16, 2024, it is said that the Royal Government has determined that Run Ta Ek Techo Sen has two communes, Run Ta Ek and Ballangk.

Please note that Run Ta Ek is a geographical location in Banteay Srei district. This geography was chosen as a new village for people moving out of the Angkor resort area. Arranging the relocation of people from the land of Angkor is the most important task in fulfilling the UNESCO requirements, especially to protect the global value of Angkor sites so they remain on the World Heritage List.

Under the coordination of the Royal Government Working Group and the cooperation of the locals, currently 5,865 families have voluntarily relocated from the Angkor resort area to live in the Run Ta Ek Development Area and 4,032 families in the Peak Snaeng Development Area. 4,730 households, or 47.79 percent of the total number of households, were relocated to the Run Ta Ek Development Zone, and 4,554 title deeds were arranged.

In order to alleviate the hardships of the people, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister of Cambodia, has organized with the utmost care for the relevant authorities to organize the clearing and fill the residential land in each lot for the people (each family gets 20 meters by 30 meters of land) and prepare to build many necessary infrastructures such as roads, schools, hospitals, markets, pagodas, and drainage systems. In addition, Samdech Techo also recommended the construction of electricity, water, and telephone services.
