Mr. Sok Soseila, Deputy Director of the Department of Water, Forestry, and Infrastructure at the Apsara Authority, highlighted the significance of the newly constructed bridge, saying that "this latest addition aligns with the ongoing efforts since 2020 to establish a dedicated bicycle lane spanning over 23 kilometers, including four bridges across the river within the Angkor area, complete with strategically positioned bridges."

He added, “The Takeo Temple Bicycle Road Bridge, boasting a width of 2.5 meters and a length of 65 meters, is designed to enhance the cycling experience for tourists. It provides a dedicated space for cyclists, separating them from regular traffic and contributing to a safer and more enjoyable exploration of the Angkor complex.”

CPM_A-Bridge-at-SR2_19012024_.jpgThis initiative is part of a broader plan that includes three additional cycling bridges strategically located in the Angkor resort area: the Angkor Bridge, Kraing Kroch Bridge, and Neak Poan Bridge. Two smaller bridges at Sindhisothor and the former Neak Poan gate further complement the comprehensive cycling infrastructure.

It should be mentioned that the primary objective of these bicycle lanes is to create a harmonious coexistence between traditional traffic and cyclists, fostering a safer environment and reducing accidents. Moreover, by promoting cycling, the Apsara Authority aims to minimize vehicular emissions, contributing to the preservation of the historic temple complex.

As for the style of construction of the bicycle bridge, Mr. Sok Soseila stated that he chose a simple arrangement similar to the surrounding nature without creating anything new and prominent, in line with the management's concept that conservation goes hand in hand with development.

At the same time, Soseila suggested that tourists participate in promoting more cycling in the Angkor resort area in order to change the environment because cycling gives us enough time to visit or study the natural surroundings, especially to eliminate toxic fumes that are harmful to the preservation of the temple.
