Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet unveiled that in a bid to stay competitive on the global stage, Cambodia will build underwater roads and bridges in the future while the kingdom has numerous large bridges spanning rivers and tributaries that have been built and put into use to facilitate travel and transportation of goods across the country.
The Prime Minister spoke on March 3 2024, during his meeting with Cambodians in Australia and New Zealand.
He said that after achieving full peace, the government has been paying attention to the development of various infrastructure such as: roads, railways, airways, bridges, flyovers and ports, etc., to ensure transportation and ease people's travel.
He continued that: "We will build a bridge from the Old Market to Arey Ksat in the near future. We are also studying the underwater roads and bridges. We have built the infrastructures on land, therefore, we must now think about building them underwater. It must be connected.”
At the same time, The Prime Minister revealed ongoing government negotiations for the construction of Road 50C connecting Kampong Chhnang to Kampong Thom with a longest bridge of more than 3 kilometers. The completion of these infrastructures promise to significantly ease travel for residents in Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Thom, further enhancing accessibility and fostering regional connectivity.
It shoud be mentioned that Cambodia currently has 6 flyovers that have been put into use, including: Kbal Thnal Flyover, 7 Makara flyover (also known as Lok Sang Hospital traffic light flyover), Stung Meanchey Flyover, Techno Flyover, Dey Hoy Flyover, and Chom Chao Flyover.
