The 3rd Wastewater Treatment Plant in Sihanoukville Province has been officially inaugurated

The third wastewater treatment plant in Sihanoukville was officially inaugurated on the morning of March 22, 2024.

Deputy Prime Minister Say Sam Al, Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction and Chairman of the Sihanoukville Assistance Team, said that waste and sewage management are important for the whole country. In particular, Sihanoukville is to accelerate the management; otherwise, it will lose the opportunity to build and pile up Sihanoukville into a potential tourism province.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that as the population grows, development increases, and the growth of tourists increases, we need to set up a sub-wastewater treatment plant. Although today we have a new wastewater treatment plant, we continue to think that in the future all dirty water must be filtered before flowing into the sea.

He also said that the wastewater treatment plant is a piece of the common infrastructure that we need to do to support economic growth and create jobs for the people of Sihanoukville.

The third wastewater treatment plant, worth nearly $20 million, opened on September 18, 2021, and was completed on August 8, 2023, by Xwater Technology Co., Ltd..

At present, in Sihanoukville, there are 3 wastewater treatment plants: 1st, capacity for wastewater treatment in the amount of 5,200 cubic meters per day. 2nd, capacity to treat wastewater in the amount of 7,200 cubic meters per day, and 3rd, capacity to treat wastewater in the amount of 20,000 cubic meters per day to receive wastewater from the fifth and sixth zones, which cover an area of 2,690 hectares.

These wastewater treatment plants use the latest Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR) technology, which is stable, high-efficiency, energy-saving, noiseless, and odorless to the surrounding environment.
