Cambodia needs $36 billion for large-scale infrastructure development

Cambodia needs about US$36 billion to invest in the implementation of the master plan for infrastructure development in the short-term and medium-term projects 2023–2027 and the long-term projects 2028–2033, according to the report of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

The first half-year progress report for 2024 on the implementation of the Comprehensive Master Plan on Cambodia Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023-2033, released last week, said that the master plan sets out a number of 174 priority projects, including 94 road projects, 8 railway projects, 23 river transport projects, 20 sea transport projects, 10 air transport projects, 15 transport projects, and 4 other additional projects.

These projects are divided into short- and medium-term projects 2023-2027 (90 projects) and long-term projects 2028-2033 (91 projects), including 7 projects that will be implemented from short-term to medium-term and long-term.

“Total investment for the implementation of these projects is estimated at US$36.6 billion over 10 years,” the report said.

Speaking in this report, H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, said that the Ministry has started to implement the comprehensive master plan "CITLS 2023-2033" effectively and responsibly and is getting satisfactory results.
