Dara Sakor Airport to begin operations for special flights this week

The newly built Dara Sakor International Airport in Koh Kong province is set to begin operations for domestic charter flights this week.

Sin Chansereivutha, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson of the State Secretariat for Civil Aviation of Cambodia (SSCA), said that the first domestic test flight will take place between Phnom Penh International Airport and Dara Sakor International Airport on December 26.

He added that His Excellency Dr. Mao Havannall, Minister in Charge of the State Secretariat for Civil Aviation, is expected to welcome the first domestic special flight to the airport that day.

He also said, “This will be the first-ever air travel to the coastal area of Koh Kong province in Cambodia. It will contribute significantly to the development of the economy, tourism, and industry in Koh Kong province and in Cambodia.”

According to the spokesperson, the airport will also plan to fully operate domestic charter flights in accordance with future compliance requirements and technical standards.

 He added that when there is a demand in the international charter flight market, Dara Sakor Airport will upgrade to open more international charter flights.

It is worth noting that Dara Sakor International Airport, located in Kiri Sakor and Botum Sakor districts, has an area of 218 hectares in the first phase and was invested in by Coastal Airport Investment Co., Ltd. at an investment of approximately US$200 million.

The airport has the capacity to receive 7 million passengers per year in the medium term, and the airport's handling capacity will increase to 20 million in the long term from 2030 to 2050.
