In January this year, Cambodia received 67,998 Chinese tourists, an increase of 45.5% compared to the same period in 2024. This according to a report from the Ministry of Tourism. This considered to be a good start to the year and Cambodia expects to receive more than 1.1 million Chinese tourists in 2025.
Hun Dany, Secretary of State and Spokeswoman at the Ministry of Tourism said: The reasons for the large increase in Chinese tourists: 1- peace and security factors, 2- good relations and cooperation between Cambodia and China, and 3- Cambodia’s reputation as a warm and safe tourist destination.
At the same time, with close cooperation between the two countries, especially with the Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, the ministry expects Chinese tourists to increase further to around 1.1 million in 2025.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism has launched a strategic plan to attract Chinese tourists by: promoting Cambodia's tourism market to the Chinese market, jointly organize tourism & cultural events, especially the two countries will organize the "Cambodia-China Tourism Year 2025" campaign to support and promote the growth of Chinese tourists to Cambodia.
It should be mentioned that, in 2024, Cambodia received 6.7 million international tourists, an increase of 22.9% over 2023, and tourism revenue reached US$3.63 billion, a year-on-year increase of 18%, accounting for 9.4% of the gross domestic product (GDP). Of these, Cambodia received more than 840,000 Chinese tourists, an increase of 55% compared to 2023.
