The official commencement of the Techo International Airport (TIA) scheduled this July will not only enhance Cambodia’s connectivity to more tourist destinations both regionally and globally but also help the Kingdom receive 7.5 million international tourists in 2025, said Minister of Tourism Huot Hak on March 19, 2025.
During a site visit to the ongoing construction of the TIA, Hak emphasized the airport facility is crucial in enhancing convenience for air passengers, particularly international tourists.
Leading a delegation of tourist agents and associations to the under-construction airport, Hak said that the TIA will contribute to Cambodia’s reputation and prestige in the tourism sector.
The construction of a 4F international airport and the ability to accommodate aircraft up to the A380, which is ranked 9th in the world, is truly significant and will help facilitate Cambodia’s tourism sector.
“After this new international airport is officially inaugurated in July, we expect more international tourists to visit Cambodia,” the minister said.
The construction of the $1.5 billion airport is now 95 percent complete.
The President of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents Chhay Sivlin said that the enhanced airport infrastructure and air connectivity have facilitated travel convenience for tourists, and shall be one of the factors in attracting tourists.
“Enhancing airport facilities and increasing air flight connections have contributed to facilitating tourists’ movements and convenience to visit the country,” said Sivlin.
Cambodia’s aviation sector experienced a remarkable surge in 2024 with the three international airports collectively handling a record high of 6.2 million passengers, according to figures from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA).
