Cambodia's first asphalt concrete factory will be built

Cambodia Compass report, 5th June - Cambodia's Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) plans to establish Cambodia's first asphalt concrete (AC) factory at the boundary of Kampot and Kep provinces this year, with the goal of producing its own AC for road building.

During the inspection this morning, MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol stated that the facility will have the capability to generate 120 tons of air conditioning per hour, making it the first of its kind in Cambodia.

HE Chanthol stated, "The Shanghai business will supply us machinery worth a total of US$1.1 million, while the rest of the construction will be carried out by ourselves under their supervision."

“At the moment, the team is laying the groundwork. Hopefully, the machine will be installed in the next three months, and the factory will begin operations later,” he added.

MPWT chose the Kampot-Kep border as the location for the facility because it is adjacent to the NR31, 33, and 41, which will be upgraded soon, according to the Minister.

In addition, the ministry intends to open a new factory in Battambang next year.

“The ministry will have direct supervision over the factory. HE Chanthol stated, "The items will be employed in government projects and can also be marketed to the commercial sector."

HE Chanthol also expects that having this factory will facilitate, speed up, and reduce the cost of road development.
