Dara Sakor Airport construction will be completed in time for the reopening

Compass Cambodia report - The Chinese company is speeding up construction of Dara Sakor International Airport in Koh Kong Province, with the goal of completing it by the end of the year or early next year, in time for Cambodia's reopening.

The weather and the COVID-19 epidemic have had a minor impact on the construction of Dara Sakor airport, according to Sin Chansereyvutha, a spokesman for the State Secretariat for Civil Aviation (SSCA). However, the corporation maintains that the team is speeding up their work.

"The entire structure is now nearing complete, but the flight cannot take off right away. We will return to tourism as planned, but there is still a lot of work to be done," he stated.

According to the spokesman, after the construction work is completed, the company will seek a test flight, as well as other processes that must be performed before the official flight.

Dara Sakor International Airport, which is being developed on a total area of 4.5 hectares in Botum Sakor district of Koh Kong province and is presently more than 90% complete, is being funded by the Chinese Union Development Group.

By the end of November, the Cambodian government wants to reopen the country to vaccinated visitors in Sihanoukville, Koh Rong in Preah Sihanouk province, and Dara Sakor resort in Koh Kong province.
