Cambodia's Tourism Industry Is On The Way Recovering Steadily

Summary:According to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, Sihanoukville is still the number one tourist destination in July. Meanwhile, the ADB forecasts tourism in Cambodia to grow 7.3 percent this year.

From 10 to 16 July 2023, 296,005 tourists visited various tourist sites in Cambodia. There were 259,441 domestic tourists and 36,564 domestic foreigners.

The tourist statistics of the second week noted that the four provinces and Phnom Penh, the most visited city, Sihanoukville had 66,557 tourists, of which more than 4,000 foreigners. The number of tourists in this province has increased by more than 500 tourists compared to the first week. In second place is Battambang province with 35,664 tourists, of which more than 600 are international visitors.

In third place, Phnom Penh has 33,211 tourists, with more than 20,000 foreign tourists. For Kampot province, there are 27,675 tourists and more than 1,000 international tourists.

The fifth largest province is Siem Reap with 22,535 tourists, including more than 5,000 international tourists. Meanwhile, Kampong Speu, Pursat and Kep provinces also have more than 10,000 tourists.

The number of tourists increased by 3.15 percent from the previous week, with domestic visitors up 3.4 percent and international visitors up 1.36 percent. Despite the increase in tourism in Sihanoukville, the Sihanoukville provincial administration has announced the weather conditions to alert people living near the sea, both fishermen and boat tourists. 

According to the latest report released by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), tourism in the Asia-Pacific region and Cambodia is experiencing a remarkable recovery. According to the report, the rise in tourism has led to a significant increase in the number of tourists and activities.

Although the ADB maintained its forecast for growth in most of the Asia-Pacific region, the agency cut its forecast for Southeast Asia to 4.6% this year and 4.9% next year, compared with 4.7% and 5.0% in April.

Tourism and agriculture in Cambodia are expected to grow 7.3% and 1.1% this year, according to the report. Next year, tourism growth is expected to slow to 6.8%, while agriculture is expected to grow 1.2%.
