Instagram allows users to hide their likes in order to alleviate social media pressure

Cambodia Compass report, 27th May - The goal, according to the social media giant, is to "depressurize people's experience" on the website. Instead of a number, users who have enabled the feature will now see the username of a follower who has liked the post, “and others.” Since 2019, the technology has been tested in a number of nations, and it is now being pushed out globally.

Following worries that using the platform could be related to insecurity and poor mental health, Instagram indicated that eliminating likes had minimal impact on behavior or wellness in its tests and research.

How to activate it

The feature can be switched on or off at any time. To change it:

• Go to Settings

• Enter the new Posts section

• Select Hide Like and View Counts.

Even if Like Counts is turned on, users will be unable to see the number of likes on accounts or posts that have them hidden. Users will now be able to hide post counts both before and after they go live on the platform.

When boosting photos on Instagram, the algorithm will still examine the number of likes, but it will also examine other characteristics, such as who the user follows or engages with.
