The project to build a bridge across the Mekong River (Dei Edth-Thma Kor), located in the southeast of Phnom Penh, connecting the west bank of Xi Jinping Boulevard and the east bank with the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, has reached the stage of construction of a temporary port and a warehouse of machinery and equipment for drilling the bridge foundation.
His Excellency Phorn Rim, Spokesman of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, confirmed to the media on the afternoon of July 6, 2024, that this bridge is a concrete bridge with a bridge body and a road connecting the bridge with a total length of 3,700 meters. The bridge has a total length of 1,600 meters and a width of 26 meters, as well as the construction of a flyover over National Road No. 1 with a length of 120 meters.
The Bridge over the Mekong River (Dei Edth-Thma Kor) was funded under the budget of a development partner financing project, with the groundbreaking ceremony on June 7, 2023, under the high presidency of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The construction period is 48 months and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027.
Currently, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) is the contractor, having prepared the location for the office, warehouse, and construction materials factory. Meanwhile, CRBC is building a temporary port for transporting construction materials, which has reached 80% and has completed the access road to the construction site.
Drilling equipment and other machinery and construction materials ready for import from China may arrive in Cambodia soon to begin construction.
Simultaneously, with the completion of the third Ring Road, to be renamed Xi Jinping Boulevard, the bridge is important in connecting the west-east geographical traffic of the Mekong River and the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, which is a potential gate for economic, tourism, and logistics ports.
