Cambodian government encourages farmers to increase cultivation

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries issued n announcement to encourage grain farmers to increase the amount of rice planted in the rainy season this year to ensure high yield and sufficient food, in order to cope with the COVID-19.

The announcement pointed out that the impact of the pandemic has seriously exceeded national estimates. Therefore, food must be safe and adequate in any situation. At present, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has begun to collect rice data from grain silos across the country in order to know the amount of food in the country. In addition, the ministry also studying the land area of other crops, such as vegetables, in order to ensure the country's food supply is sufficient.

What’s more, the announcement also stated that domestic livestock farming operations must be guaranteed to operate normally and that there will be no problems in the supply chain. Not only that, but also to strengthen the supply capacity, by providing loans to encourage farmers to expand their business.
