Interior Minister Sar Kheng has recommended the creation of a sub-decree to formally connect the interior ministry’s General Department of Identification (GDI) and the Ministry of Economy’s Cambodia Data Exchange Platform (CamDX) databases after a successful pilot of the scheme. The announcement came at a meeting yesterday to evaluate the trial connection between the two databases, which began on June 15.
CamDX or single portal, currently facilitated by the Ministry of Economy is the government’s new information technology platform through which business registration will take place.
When a person wanted to register a business, they needed to provide verification of their identity, which before the connected databases required filling out information on paper multiple times to relevant ministries.
However, the connection of CamDX and GDI databases means the Ministry of Economy can verify a person’s identity instantly, making for a much quicker process.
GDI spokesman Top Neth told Khmer Times today: “The sub-decree will make it easier for the CamDX to access verify identity using the GDI database.” “When someone registers a business, they need to provide proof of identification. In the past, this took much longer as we used paper and people had to provide ID cards.
“The data would also need to be reentered by other ministries who may type it incorrectly, leading to errors. “If the databases are connected, we can verify the person’s identity using the database,” added Neth.
Since the pilot began, more than 100 companies have submitted applications to register their business with the Ministry of Economy, who have used the GDI system to verify the identity of the applicant, said the Ministry of Interior’s statement yesterday.(This news came from Khmertimes.com)
