The Kampot provincial administration, in collaboration with China Road Company, is planning to build a new bridge crossing the Kampong Bay river, in response to the highly congested traffic caused by growing numbers of tourists.
The new bridge project was discussed at a meeting between Kampot Governor H.E. Chev Tay and China Road’s representative on July 23.
According to the Kampot deputy governor Oeng Chhay, the new bridge aims to solve traffic congestion around the Kampong Bay area, particularly during the weekend.
“We have only one bridge. Every Saturday and Sunday, there are a lot of tourists here. So, the old bridge becomes congested. That’s why we want to build another one to improve the traffic flow,” said Mr Chhay.
Mr Chhay added that the project is currently at the studying stage; thus, he cannot provide any further details such as estimated budget or timeline of the construction yet.
However, the project has already been approved by the government, and the officials are currently inspecting several possible locations.(This news came from Construction-Property.com)
