Swiss Agency Assists Cambodia in Developing Tourism Skills in the Northeast

Swiss agencies assist Cambodia in developing tourism skills in the Northeast region to increase the income of the communities there.

In this regard, Ms. Naddia Ottiger, Deputy Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (Swiss Confederation) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HE Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, on the afternoon of the 5th, August 2020 at the Ministry of Tourism.

HE Thong Khon said that this Swiss agency supports tourism vocational training in the Northeast for 4 years from 2020 to 2024, and this is also a phase of tourism professional development program. Second, for target provinces such as: Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakkiri, Mondulkiri and Preah Vihear.

"The second phase of the Skills Development Program will contribute to the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of Tourism in promoting the training and development of human resources in the tourism sector, especially the training of youth, students and staff in tourism, hospitality and traveling in the above target provinces to get a professional skill in life, as well as get a decent job with increasing their income better," H.E said.

According to a press release from the Swiss Agency for International Development (USAID), the project will strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Tourism, both national and sub-national ,in order to raise human capital for tourism on tourism vocational education and training in the provincial context, tourism destinations will also be involved in creating resources, trainers and evaluators.

It should be noted that in the first phase, the tourism skills training program focused on training young men and women on tourism and hospitality in three main provinces: Kratie, Stung Treng and Preah Vihear. (This news came from AKP)
