Affected by the epidemic, trade between Thailand and neighboring countries has been hit hard. Among the trade activities of Thailand’s border countries, Cambodia’s trade volume was the only country that increased in the first half of this year.
The Department of International Trade of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand revealed that in the first half of this year (January to June), Thailand's border and cross-border trade totaled 627.4 billion baht, a year-on-year decrease of 9.18%. Among them, exports were 365.2 billion baht, down 8.6%; imports were 262.2 billion baht, down 9.98%, and the trade surplus was 103 billion baht.
In the first half of this year, Thailand carried out border trade activities with four neighboring countries of Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.
Malaysia was its largest border trading partner, with a trade volume of 109.4 billion baht, a year-on-year decrease of 26.81%. Cambodia's trade volume increased by 2.27%, and it was the only country that saw an increase in border trade in the first half of this year.
In addition, in terms of cross-border trade, China is Thailand's largest export destination, with a total export value of 109.8 billion baht, a year-on-year increase of 16%.
