According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s report on September 1, the progress of each section of road are as follows:
1. The northern part from Battambang to Serey Sophoan (84.74 km) is 79.05% complete, scheduled for completion in July 2021
2. Central section part from Thla Ma Om to Battambang (146.04 km) is 30.48% completed, scheduled for completion in April 2022
3. The southern part from Prek Kdam of Kandal Province -to Thla Ma Om of Pursat Province (135.24 km) is 19.44% completed, scheduled for completion in August 2022
The renovation of National Road 5 has a total length of 366km connecting the capital to the northwest part of the country passing through Kompong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.
The road will be upgraded to Asphalt Concrete (AC) and expanded to four lanes with the width of 23m. The project is being undertaken with a loan of US$500 million from the Japanese government.
