The Banteay Meanchey provincial department of Public Works and Transport is ready to inspect and assess the roads damaged by the floods to repair after the floods recede.
Sok Chanthea, Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport of Banteay Meanchey Province, said that the recent floods have affected the 25-kilometer stretch of National Road No. 5 by flooding in Thmar Puok and Mongkul Borey district.
He said that the first thing the department should do is to protect the section of road where the water is flowing so that there are no more roadblocks and closed traffic to heavy vehicles, which can cause problems to the foundation of road when the water recedes.
"We have sandbags depend on the road conditions, such as in some places there are bridges that are intended to erode, so we have prevent the bridge with trees and sandbags to avoid sunken which will cause to damage the bridge. After the flood recede, we will conduct an assessment with an inter-ministerial committee working through the department, requesting the ministry to repair the roads damaged by the floods." Chanthea said.
Recently, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, said that 13 provinces were damaged by floods due to rain, more than 245 km of roads, equivalent to 199 sections, including 5 km of AC roads, 120 km DBST road and120 km dirt road.
