Hor Namhong, deputy Prime Minister, expressed his willingness to encourage Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone to expand into a major production base in the ASEAN community of more than 600 million people to export a wide range of products to the ASEAN Community as well as other countries.
Namhong's encouragement was made while allowing Mr. CHEN JIANGANG, President of SSEZ, at the Office of the Council of Ministers on the morning of November 16, 2020 to report on Developed in SSEZ.
On that occasion, Jiang Kang informed Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong that at present, there are a total of 165 investment companies in the SSEZ, which has created job opportunities for about 30,000 workers. The company has also built six dormitories for about 3,000 workers.
From January to October 2020, the value of exports and imports of SSEZ amounted to 1,300 million US dollars, an increase of 31% compared to the same period in 2019.
He added that in order to seize the opportunity to develop the Rectangular Strategy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, all companies have jointly accelerated the realization of expectations to build the SSEZ into an international park of Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong, the SSEZ is a subsidiary of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of the People's Republic of China, within the framework of President Xi Jinping's "Belt and Road" policy.
Namhong said that SSEZ is very special, which is close to Sihanoukville International Port and is a locomotive for export-import of goods because Sihanoukville is the most important economic and tourism pole of Cambodian and many Chinese companies also came to invest in this city a lot.
He encouraged the SSEZ "to export products in the ASEAN Community of more than 600 million people, which is the production base of the ASEAN Community."
Not only that, the Deputy Prime Minister also expressed the expectation that the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone will contribute to increase the trade volume between Cambodia and China to 10 billion US dollars by 2023 and promote trade movement between Cambodia and other countries.
