The head of the Royal Government stated that the funds from Cambodia's initial oil sales will be used for two priority sectors: education and health, which are important sectors of Cambodia.

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, confirmed that on December 29, 2020, Cambodia began receiving its first drops of oil in the Block A area of the Gulf of Cambodia by Kris Energy, which drilled oil from the seabed in Sihanoukville.

Samdech Techo stated that the revenue from the sale of oil will be used in two priority areas: education and health. Samdech Techo further stated that Cambodia's oil in Block A is not related to Thailand, that is, the distance from Thailand is more than 300 kilometers, while the distance from Sihanoukville is only more than 100 kilometers. The Prime Minister further said that in addition to the additional income from the drop of oil, Cambodia will also have additional sources of income from natural resources, such as income from gold mining, which will be ready to do business and revenue from coal in Oddar Meanchey that can produce at least 300 to 400 megawatts of electricity can be generated from coal, while Cambodia currently has to buy coal from abroad.

"In the new phase, which is a new source of income in the future, we still have a source of income from oil, we will have a source of income from our gold mines, still ready to do big business, we will have income from coal which do not need to buy from outside and we will have a machine in Oddar Meanchey and now we are importing coal from outside and we will continue to import, we can produce more coal but we can produce 300 or 400 Megawatts using our own coal. Our natural resources have not yet been exploited, so I would like to reaffirm the new revenue to prioritize two areas: education and health,"  Samdech Techo confirmed.
